Karma

A poem about life, identity and the courage to face what is true.

I caught her in bed with a strangerShe was so angry I had to apologiseI couldn’t believe it, I had to blink twiceShe used to say “Babe don’t believe them, it’s all lies”I believed her, who was I to doubt her?
I fell to my knees and felt my kneecaps crackI couldn’t even ignore the scratches on his backMy crazy mind thought “close your eyes and let them finish”I felt my self-worth drastically diminishI crawled to the living room and she followed, 5 minutes laterI realised at that moment, betrayal had a basementI felt like my head hit a pavement
What happened next proved to me that things were worse than I thoughtShe came close to me, my blood boiledShe put both hands on my cheeks and for some reason, I became arousedI looked at her soft lips and bit mine, Stockholm syndrome at level 100Her mouth moved slow as she said “I’m keeping the house; you can have the car”I felt like my heart was being pierced with a crowbarAt the same time, I wanted to believe it was cupid’s arrow
I wanted the pain to stop. So, I overdosed on painkillersHow I ended up under suicide watch is beyond meTurns out analgesics don’t work on heartachesI had to relive that moment every week and they called it therapyI told her that I would die without her, that’s why she left me?Turns out that I’m liar because I’m still breathingI made it through, even with my heart bleedingI faked smiled my way out of it, while silently screamingI ended up finding love and peace because I didn’t stop believing
Life didn’t show her any mercy, she came backWhat she said would have been better on a soundtrackI couldn’t stand to see her in pain, I sat downI couldn’t believe how many wrinkles they were behind that frownI am human and I have a big heartSo, I let her pour hers out in remorseAnd my only response was “sucks, doesn’t it?”I tried to add Job 4 vs. 8 but it wasn’t a good fitI wanted her to taste her own medicine for a little bitshe couldn’t breathe when I told her that I’ve moved onI saw that she was running out of breath, I had to do somethingSo, I showed her a photo of my pregnant fiancé at her bridal shower.
